Picture a really nice steak. You want the meat itself to really shine, so you keep it simple when you go to prepare it. No overly distracting sauces, spice rubs, or elaborate presentation. Just season simply, briefly blast it with some heat and serve. That’s how you get the pure essence of that quality steak. The land Sand Valley is draped over has a lot in common with a great cut of meat. It doesn’t much to shine, and architects Bill Coore & Ben Crenshaw — two of the smartest men in golf design — wisely know when to keep things simple. Their minimalistic design doesn’t provide the flash — the land does. And with one of the best pieces of non-seaside land in years, the result is one of the best — and most enjoyable — young golf courses in America.
Expert Reviews
The greens are smoother and truer, but have maintained my favorite signature characteristic – the sound. When I first played here, I chalked this sound up to being so young. I’ve since been told its because of the unique sand/soil composition underneath. The best way I can describe it is that a high shot coming straight down onto the green sounds like it’s landing on a bongo. No matter how many times you hear it throughout your round, it never gets old. .
