Rugged and unforgettable

Golf, to a point, is made for rugged landscapes – a flat, empty field is a boring venue for play. Emphasis on “to a point”. There is that point where the land is just too rough for golf, and playability and fairness suffers. The land the stunning Greywalls course is dropped over goes well beyond the normal limit for what works for golf. And yet, it works – despite the extreme ruggedness – and often spectacularly so. With holes routed between sheer grey rock cliffs, and over humps and bumps like those you’d see on a links course, it’s fair to way Greywalls is a completely unique any other course you’ll ever play.
Expert Reviews
Greywalls is a course that deserves to be in any conversation about the best course in Michigan. Cut through striking terrain on the hills overlooking Lake Superior, Greywalls is a unique golf experience. The course gets its name from the grey rock formations that dominate the region. From the first tee, the name is obvious. A good shot launches over a ravine to a grassy knoll, which then plunges downhill past several grey rocky outcroppings to the green.
Golf BloggerNot only do you feel removed from the rest of the world while playing Greywalls, the course simply feels natural; almost like it was meant to be there. While the terrain is crazy in spots, you’d never say it was tricked up. Even though the two courses couldn’t be different in many ways, Greywalls reminds me a lot of Royal Dornoch. Both tracks are built on terrain so gorgeous that I’d enjoy walking them even if I wasn’t playing golf. You’ll just look around in amazement many times throughout the round.
