Roscommon, Michigan
A little Augusta, a little Pine Valley, and a lot of Michigan

Northern Michigan is not a place many have high on their list to visit. For good reason — there’s not a whole lot there. But in tiny Roscommon (population: 1,053), travel-worthy golf can be found at Forest Dunes. It’s a course that establishes its own identity by looking towards two other courses — the immaculate conditioned holes framed by pines of Augusta and the rugged, sandy wastelands of Pine Valley, all of which is filtered through its remote Northern Michigan locale. But perhaps with an irreverent bet-settling 19th hole — a short par 3 with a bunker in the middle of the green, Forest Dunes establishes an identity all its own: a seriously great place to golf with friends.
Expert Reviews
Set within 500 acres of the Huron National Forest, Forest Dunes’ remote and isolated location is also one of its most captivating features. Far from the madding crowd, it offers a peaceful yet eye-opening golf experience. Its expansive landscape is marked by hardwoods, red and jack pines, native dunes, ponds and open meadows—the epitome of Pure Michigan and all its allure.
The A PositionLocated in the golf mecca of Northern Michigan, the Tom Weiskopf designed Forest Dunes course has become a not-to-be-missed destination in the area. The front nine has a parkland feel while the back nine plays through sandy wasteland that has drawn comparisons to Pine Valley. The topography is rather flat which is nice for those walking the course but is a bit mundane at the same time.
