Gullane Golf Club, No. 1
Gullane, Scotland
A memorable mix of challenge, atmosphere and fun

Compared to the other great links courses, Gullane No. 1 files a bit under the radar. Perhaps Gullane don’t lend itself as easily to the reductive characterization that makes it easy to explain the appeal of other nearby courses, such as Murifield and North Berwick. But don’t pass up Gullane. The town the course begins and ends in is surpassed by none – St. Andrews included – for a delightfully pervasive golf-obsessed vibe. A bit unusual for a links, Gullane No. 1 climbs up, over and around a hill that provides one of the best panoramic views in golf. And the course itself is a straight-up championship level challenge with great hole after great hole. This is one of the best all-around experiences in Scotland, and in golf.
Expert Reviews
The course is relentlessly persistent in producing quality golf holes, one after another….The course has some truly fantastic views but don’t be fooled by the amazing aspect that acts as a backdrop to almost every hole because, as good as it is, the scenery is most definitely a supporting act to the superb golf on offer. The course doesn’t possess the quirks and idiosyncrasies that some links courses muster but that isn’t to its detriment. This is true championship links golf. .
