Great Blue at

Heron Lakes Golf Club

Portland, Oregon

Water and memorable holes abound at Portland’s standout muni

“Muni” conveys a certain image. The Great Blue course at Heron Lakes – an oasis in an industrial section of Portland near the Columbia River – is the antithesis of that image. It’s a hard, well-designed course that’ll will leave you smiling no matter how much it beats you up. Water is everywhere – it’s built on and around wetlands – and you’re going to find some of it. No matter. These holes are all interesting and some are genuinely fantastic. The closing stretch from 14 onwards is as good as it gets. This is one of the most underrated courses in the region, and absolutely worth your time.

When to Play
Heron Lakes is open year round, however, it’s not a course you want to play when it has been wet.

Portland, OR – where Heron Lakes is located – tends to get a lot of rain from about mid-October through May or even June. July through mid-October rare is rare. Temperatures are usually mild in fall, winter and spring. Summers are hot but comfortable, due to the low humidity.

Your best bet for playing Heron Lakes is June through October, during the dry season.
