Portmarnock Golf Club

Dublin, Ireland

A classic test the equal of any other course in Ireland

Links courses – anywhere, but especially in Ireland – get by on drama; wild dunes, soaring views, surprising twists and turns, humps and bumps. So when a course like Portmarnock that is not overly dramatic – the dunes are lower and softer, the views are pleasant but not overwhelming, and the holes are straightforward and the challenge is all in front of you – is frequently ranked as the top course in Ireland, that means something. Unlike some other of the best courses, Portmarnock gets by on the strength, consistency and fairness of its test. This is a golf course that has more in common with the British Open courses of England, not the rugged courses on the western shore of the island. It’s just a great, testing golf course that happens to be a links. When you want a true test, there is where you come.
